Homemade Shadow Box Gift for Grandma

Announcing my pregnancy was one of the best moments I have ever shared with my family. My sweet girl is the first grand baby on either side of our family, so there was a lot of excitement and anticipation as we awaited her arrival. One of the people who was most excited for a new family member was my mom. She had always been an incredible mother to me and I knew she would be an even better grandma.

I love handmade gifts that are personal and heartfelt, but don’t break the bank. I don’t think it has to be expensive to let someone know that you care about them. I made this sweet homemade shadow box gift for my mom and my mother-in-law as a thank you gift when they hosted a baby shower in our honor. This gift is so unique because depending on the photo you add, you can customize it to your season of life. Going forward, my mom can change out the pictures as my daughter grows older, so it’s a gift that will last.

Here’s how to make the gift: First, I printed the picture on white card stock. You can use any paper you like, but I have found that white card stock holds up the best with the weight of the clothes pin and the picture. This print is just under 8.5 x 11, so it is meant to fit into an 8×10 frame. Use the glass from your frame to trace around the edges of the print. Then cut along that line for a perfect fit.

Then attach a small clothes pin to the print with a small dot of glue. I found my clothes pins at Hobby Lobby, but you can find something similar at any craft store.

Then I attached a photo and placed it in an 8×10 shadow box frame.

That’s it! It’s so simple, but it is a really special gift for any grandma or grandma-to-be. It could even be a sweet way to say thank you or announce your pregnancy!
