5 Resources for Budget Savvy Moms

I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for smart ways to save a little money. It can be difficult to discover simple ways to save money. These 5 Resources for Budget Savvy Moms are all things that I use on a regular basis.

1. Groupon Coupons

I have always used Groupon for finding great deals on fun things to do in Dallas, but now they have launched Groupon Coupons. They have coupons and online promo codes for 8,500 major retailers like Expedia, Nike, and Macy’s. My favorite section is the Baby & Kids category featuring brands like Target (right now they have a 10% off baby items!), Toys R’ Us, and Old Navy. You can even “follow” individual stores to be notified when they post a new coupon. Now I never purchase anything online without checking to see if they have a coupon code available first!

2. Shopping Lists

One of the best habits I have developed is making a shopping list before I go to the store. If I have a plan when I get to the store, I am much less likely to be sidetracked and spend money on things I don’t need.

3. Consignment Sales

Shopping kids consignment is easily one of the best ways I have saved money since becoming a mom. These giant sales happen twice a year and feature amazing deals on baby and children’s gear, toys, and clothing. Most clothing is discounted 70-90% and hey typically get discounted even more towards the end of the sale. I have found onesies for less than $1 and a Lego Duplo Set worth over $100 for less than $20.

4. Smartphone Apps

If I am shopping kid-free, I typically have use 2-3 apps at every store. My husband and I use Wunderlist, which is a list making app that can be synced among phones. If I think of something while he’s at the store, I can add it to the list on my app and his app will be updated immediately. I use Ibotta after I get done shopping to get cash back on purchases I already made. I also use a few store apps – Cartwheel by Target is amazing for in-store discounts and Savings Catcher by Walmart compares prices to other local stores and gives you the difference on a gift card.

5. Coupon Bloggers

Some bloggers are dedicated to finding the best deals each week using ads in local newspapers and printable coupons. They combine deals and show you how to stack coupons to help moms save the most money. Some of my favorite sites are Coupon Crazy Mommy, Hip2Save, and The Krazy Coupon Lady. One of my favorite deals was organic baby food pouches for less than $0.50 each. Typically I made my own baby food to save money, but we were heading on vacation and these pouches were a lifesaver on flights and in long lines.

Great tips, Megan! I love my cartwheel app and I can also find some good mobile coupons on the regular target app too. I often forget to check groupon, but they do have some great deals. I’ll have to look up those other apps you mentioned too. It’s amazing just how much money you can save when you take the time to try.. Thanks for sharing!

  2. EveryDollar App is great for budgeting- and I never go to the grocery store without a list! We also almost never eat out at a fast food place without a coupon or kids eat free day! lol

  3. I love Ibotta, but I always forget to scan the products. I have to make a habit of doing it right away when I get home from the store. All great resources and we currently use most of them. Stopping in from the Blog Love Project to say hi.
