This Complete Labor & Delivery Hospital Bag Checklist will help you know how to pack a hospital bag and get your pregnancy hospital bag prepared.
Trying to decide what to pack in a Hospital Bag for Labor & Delivery is no easy task. In the past, I have mentioned the 10 Things No One Tells You to Put in Your Labor & Delivery Hospital Bag, but now it’s time for me to share my whole packing list so that you can print it out and use it yourself!
When I was preparing to give birth to our daughter, I looked through dozens of lists and scoured through books and blog posts, but I didn’t feel like there was a checklist that really fit my needs. Most of the lists I saw included Monogrammed Bath Robes and Personalized Pacifier Holders and that’s just not me. I like to be prepared, but I am fairly practical.
Eventually, I decided to create my own packing list and work from that document. When one of my best girlfriends got pregnant, she asked if she could borrow my packing list and I realized that lots of moms-to-be might be looking for a thorough, practical Labor & Delivery Hospital Bag Checklist. That’s when I decided to share my personal packing list with all of you!

This list is great. I wish I’d thought of the dad’s gift!
This link is not working…can it be updated?
I’m so sorry about that – thank you for letting me know! I have updated the link!
This list is perfect! Just one question… tennis balls in socks? haha I just can’t figure that one out.
Yes! It’s the best massage tool ever! They talked about it in my lamaze class – you just stick a couple tennis balls in a sock and have your coach roll it across your back (especially your low back) during labor. It’s a miracle worker!
That is such a fantastic little piece of advice! Thank you, it has officially been added to my bag 🙂
I’m personally bringing lip balm and moisturizers like Vaseline and lotion. Whenever I’m in a high stress situation my skin gets very dry and uncomfortable, which in turn stresses me out more. I’m not sure if anyone else has this problem, but I thought I’d add 🙂
A couple things I didn’t see on your list that I plan to pack for my hospital trip are: Depends undies (better than the pads, don’t feel like you might leak out), belly band, and I have a section on my list for my toddler which includes a cuppie, some snacks, a book or two, his play phone, a teddy, change of clothes, blanket, and diapers/wipes.
You should add “birth plan” to the Important section! I forgot mine last time!!!!! Otherwise, great list!
Great list! I strongly recommend a roll or two of nice toilet paper from home. Our hospital’s stuff is really, really rough. Not so pleasant for new aches in delicate places! My husband has Ulcerative Colitis, so he couldn’t tolerate the hospital stuff, either. We begged my mother to bring nice TP with her on her first visit, lol!
