If you’ve ever been on vacation with a toddler or a preschooler and you didn’t bring toys, you know exactly why this post is so important. From airplanes to waiting in lines, hotel rooms to long dinners, new and familiar toys can make the difference between a vacation you’ll always remember and one you’d just as soon forget. Here are my Top 10 Toys to Bring on Vacation:
1. Boogie Board
A more compact and modern version of the Etch-A-Sketch, its convenient size and mess-free nature make it perfect for traveling.
2. Bag of Animals
A toy with lots of small parts may not sound like the ideal travel companion, but these little plastic animals are so inexpensive you won’t mind if you loose one or two. Your little one will have so many adventures with a bag of animals.
3. Magnetic Tin
My daughter loves this magnetic set. There are magnetic animals that stick to the inside of the tin. This one comes with a few paper scenes to play with the animals on. This set has several pieces that are too small for a toddler, but I took those out and put them in a plastic bag for when she’s older. There are lots of large animals she loves to play with.
4. Play Packs
I find these Grab & Go Play Packs in the dollar spot at Target. They have crayons, a little coloring and activity book, and stickers. The best part is they can be stored in their own resealable pouch!
5. Kid’s Camera
Whether your kiddo is a budding photographer or not, it will be fun to see your family vacation through their little eyes. Pick up a kid-proof camera so you’re not worried about them chucking your phone into a fountain and you might be pleasantly surprised at what they’re able to capture!
6. Finger Puppets
Finger puppets are great for pretend play and will encourage imagination. They are ideal for traveling because of all the play possibilities in such a tiny package. If you have a little more room, these hand puppets would be so fun.
7. Pillow Pets
These snuggly friends pull double duty as both a stuffed animal and pillow!
8. Color Wonder Travel Tote
Crayola’s Color Wonder Markers won’t mark anywhere except the special paper. The crews that clean up after you on the plane, in the hotel, and at restaurants will be eternally grateful.
9. Stickers
We love taking stickers on the plane because they can be stuck on your kiddo, your seat tray, and the airplane window.
10. Leap Frog Reader
Leap Frog Readers are perfect – you can read them with your child or they can read them on their own. Our toddler loves Leap Reader Junior, which is made for 1-3 year-olds. Older kids will love the LeapReader Reading and Writing System.
