It’s a…

GIRL!

Baby GIRL Harney (2 of 2)

We are so excited to meet our little Jedi Princess!

Daniel and I could not be more thrilled to be having a little girl next February! It feels so odd to finally be able to stop calling this little growing person an ‘it’ and start calling her a ‘she’. Our hearts are so full of joy.

We always knew we would find out at our mid-pregnancy sonogram because that was going to bring me one step closer to really feeling like a mom. I’ll confess I had been hoping for a boy, but it was probably fate that we couldn’t agree on a single boy’s name and we had three girl’s names picked out that we both liked. We went to lunch at a cafe before the appointment and talked about our dreams for the baby. At the end of lunch, we both wrote down our predictions, but talked about how we would really be happy either way. We both predicted it would be a girl.

They started the sonogram and the technician asked, “Now are we finding out the gender?” We both told her “Yes!” (trying not to sound too anxious…I don’t think it worked). She typed on the screen “IT’S A GIRL” and of course I started crying. I was going to be a mommy…to a little girl. I felt such a sense of overwhelming joy and I knew that was exactly the way it was supposed to be.

Since we didn’t get a chance to share the news of our pregnancy with our families exactly the way we wanted, I knew I wanted to share our baby’s gender with them in a special way. I spent almost a month writing, drawing, and digitizing this book to share our baby’s gender with our families. After we found out, we kept the secret a little longer so we could read the book to them in person. When we went home over Christmas break, I read the book to my parents at a Chili’s on the ride home from the airport because I just couldn’t hold it in any longer. There were hugs and tears all around.

We gathered my husband’s family in the living room and I read the book and they couldn’t have been more excited. His sisters started immediately started talking about possible baby names.

PREGNANCY UPDATE:

  • How far along? 28 Weeks
  • Feeling: Finally feeling better (After 6 MONTHS of being sick!)
  • Craving: The only thing that ever sounds good is Greek food. I think this baby is going to come out in a vat of hummus!
